Islamabad Bicycle Tracks will soon span the federal capital following a landmark approval by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to modernize urban mobility. During a high-level meeting at the CDA headquarters, Chairman and Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa finalized plans to integrate dedicated cycling lanes and pedestrian-friendly pathways into the city’s existing infrastructure.
The initiative aims to transform Islamabad into a more accessible and sustainable city, prioritizing “green” transit alongside major road repairs.
Expanding Islamabad Bicycle Tracks and Pedestrian Safety
The CDA leadership has directed the immediate construction of Islamabad Bicycle Tracks along existing footpaths in key residential and commercial sectors. This development is part of a comprehensive strategy to upgrade the capital’s “Class-III” shopping areas and commercial hubs.
According to official briefings, the project includes:
- Infrastructure Overhaul: Extensive repairs to parking areas and footpaths in residential sectors.
- Pedestrian Focus: Development of walkable pathways in major business districts to enhance safety.
- Digital Integration: Expansion of digital parking systems and updated lane markings for better traffic flow.
- Maintenance Blitz: Immediate repair of drainage systems, curbstones, and manholes across affected zones.
Crackdown on Encroachments and Illegal Structures
Chairman Randhawa issued a stern directive for the immediate removal of all illegal constructions and encroachments. This enforcement drive is designed to reclaim public space for the new infrastructure and ensure that pedestrian paths remain unobstructed.
To maintain the aesthetic appeal of the capital, the Capital Development Authority will also initiate regular landscaping and the installation of modern signboards. These efforts are expected to significantly reduce congestion while providing citizens with safer, alternative commuting options.
