Islamabad National Bus Terminal plans have been accelerated following a strategic Capital Development Authority (CDA) session focused on the 31-acre development in Sector I-11/4. Chaired by Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa on March 16, 2026, the meeting finalized the site layout for a transport hub designed to overhaul the capital’s transit logistics.

Strategic Infrastructure of the Islamabad National Bus Terminal

The project is set to become the primary transit artery for the city, linking directly with the proposed 11th Avenue to eliminate urban congestion. According to the Capital Development Authority, the facility will serve as a modern gateway with high-volume capacity and integrated commercial services.

Key project specifications include:

  • Total Area: Approximately 31 acres in a prime industrial/transport sector.
  • Capacity: Dedicated bays to accommodate over 100 buses at any given time.
  • Amenities: On-site petrol pumps, service stations, and maintenance workshops.
  • Commuter Services: Integrated taxi stands and expansive commercial zones for retail.
  • Connectivity: Seamless access to the planned 11th Avenue for rapid entry and exit.

To ensure the Islamabad National Bus Terminal meets international standards, Chairman Randhawa has ordered an open architectural competition to solicit “high-quality” designs from top-tier firms. The Government of Pakistan infrastructure guidelines will be mirrored in the project’s operational model, which currently involves the expedited hiring of specialized consultants to manage financial and construction frameworks.

The move signals a shift toward centralized transport management in Sector I-11/4, aiming to provide a state-of-the-art alternative to the fragmented bus stands currently operating across the city.
