The BSEK Overhauls Exams process has officially begun following a high-level directive from Chairman Ghulam Hussain Soho to transition from memorization to conceptual mapping. In a decisive meeting held Saturday with senior paper setters for core subjects—including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English—the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) confirmed that future assessments will prioritize analytical thinking over traditional rote learning.
BSEK Overhauls Exams with New Conceptual Framework
Chairman Soho emphasized that the shift is designed to align Karachi’s secondary education with global standards. By focusing on student comprehension rather than the ability to recite memorized text, the board aims to foster genuine intellectual growth.
Key changes approved during the session include:
- Concept-Based Question Bank: Development of a specialized repository of questions that test “higher-order thinking.”
- Standardized Marking Rubrics: Introduction of clear, transparent scoring criteria to ensure fairness.
- Balanced Weightage: A restructured paper format that distributes marks across various cognitive levels.
- Anti-Cheating Measures: The board expects that unique, application-based questions will naturally reduce the effectiveness of cheating materials.
Enhanced Oversight and Teacher Support
To maintain the integrity of these reforms, the paper-setting process will now fall under the direct supervision of the BSEK Chairman and the Controller of Examinations. In a move to incentivize quality, participating educators will now receive dedicated travel allowances and participate in regular consultative workshops.
“Our goal is to ensure students focus on core ideas,” Soho stated, noting that these reforms will be fully integrated into the 2027 examination cycle.
